Sounds so depressing to me. I went to visit twice in September, to see how the reaction was to the July Watchtower. The mood was so somber and oppressive, I could not wait to get out of there. The meetings were never really that enjoyable for us, but I could feel the heavy presence of evil in the room now. Unlike years past, NO ONE greeted us or spoke to us. We were dressed for the part, and we (at that time) were even carrying the JW bible and song book. Combine this with the fact that every time they use the word "Jehovah," they are actually referring to themselves, makes this one of the most disturbing organizations that exists in the developed world. It disguises itself as a religion. What could be more nefarious? I look forward to the day that my family wakes us and leaves this satanic cult.

Latest WT lesson typical example of why meetings are such downers
by JimmyPage inhere's what i gathered from the most recent wt study: 1. all your problems are your own fault, or 2. the ones that aren't your fault are satan's fault.
3. don't blame jehovah for anything, and 4. more importantly, never criticize the ones who claim to represent jehovah.. this is a typical meeting nowadays.
there are all kinds of possibilities to emphasize positive qualities and experiences.

I noticed this at the end of your notes, although my mother told me there were no changes made to any meaning of scripture. Which is it??
There will be many scriptures that have a whole new meaning, and we will be discovering these for a long time to come. Scriptures like John 17:3 may open some people's eyes about the action they need to take.
Old version of NWT at John 17:3 says:
“. 3 This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”
What does the New version say? (download won't work for me yet)
What action are they referring to, in regard to this particular scripture?

Mark Sanderson - Why Is the Newest GB Member Suddenly So Prominent?
by Oubliette ini've noticed something that is very odd even by wt/gb standards.
why is mark sanderson suddenly so prominent in all things wt/jw?.
others have commented on the obvious narcissism of the gb pushing themselves to the fore recently, in particular after their huge doctrinal change at proclaiming themselves and only themselves as the faithful and discreet slave.. this is clearly true as evidenced at the agm, not only throughout the agm, but also in the video that was featured as part of that meeting.

Now that I think of it, I sorta wish I had left my magazine under the chair, so someone there could have seen all my notes in the margins. Oh well, spilled milk...

regarding the full page ad, featuring him in the july 15 watchtower magazine... I also noticed this, along with the fact that they were introducing a possible rapture for the annointed. While we were enduring the meeting at the local KH, I couldnt help myself... I drew hearts all around his picture. Something about him, made me just want to love this guy! underneath the photo, I wrote, "he wants to be raptured!"

Oubliette: I don't know, but I am not risking it. We assume privacy we do not have, in many every day situations. I do not install apps or software from companies I do not trust.

Are JWs more tight with money than normal people?
by Julia Orwell inactually, in my experience, i have not found them to be tighter or more generous with money.
i've found them to be about the same with handling money as non-jws, though less likely to invest their money, but unlikely to waste it on cigarettes, pubs/clubs and gambling like many non-jws do.
i certainly don't find them tighter or stingier than normal people though, and slightly more honest.. what are your experiences with jws and money compared to non-jws and money?.

I can only speak from the observation of my own parents, who converted to JW in the last few years. Every year at christmas, my dad used or give us each $100 bills as a gift. My mom was also fairly generous. Since they started going to the KH instead of the family Christmas, there have been little or n. Gifts, even for the grandkids. I'm assuming they are donating it to the WTS.
I would like to add, we took my mom along on a fancy vacation in May. It cost us over $2,000, but it was our choice and we did tell her we would pay her way and her meals, etc. She offered NOTHING. She didn't even offer to buy a cookie or a gumball for the kids. I thought she might act like a typical grandma, but she did not. It was disappointing, but oh well... She has her priorities. They are obvious.

Tea Party with a Cultist
by jgnat infirst off, americans, i'm not talking the boston tea party, here.. .
think more along the lines of the mad hatter's tea party.. .
i was imagining the different approach we take talking our loved-ones, depending on whether they are in their cult mode or natural mode.

Jgnat: the local JW's supposedly "miss" us, too... But not enough to call or visit us, of course. ;)
